Welcome Back, HUUMSters!

Welcome back for a new school year, members and friends of HUUMS! The HUUMS Board is excited to be back, and we have a lot planned for September already!

Our first Friday worship will be September 9th at noon in Andover Chapel. Our Worship Coordinator, Kat, is organizing a beautiful welcome back/greeting service for those who have been coming to HUUMS for years and those who are coming for the first time. Later that afternoon, we’ll have a HUUMS Happy Hour (dinner and drinks, if desired) at 5 pm at the Cambridge Queenshead Pub (in Memorial Hall). You can meet us there, or meet a couple of us HUUMS Board members at 4:20 pm on the Quad side of Harvard Divinity School (or in the Rock Lounge if it’s raining) so we can walk over together.

But that’s not all for our first week! HUUMS is also hosting HDS’s first Noon Service of the year in Andover Chapel tomorrow (Wednesday, 9/7)! Harvard Divinity School sponsors a weekly “Noon Service” of worship, and every week a different HDS student group takes the lead in coordinating and officiating a service. (They also serve lunch afterwards–hoorah!) Traditionally, HUUMS takes the first Wednesday of the school year (is it because we’re awesome? yes!). Please come and support HUUMS by attending our public worship service for the Harvard Divinity School community tomorrow at noon!

Looking ahead to the end of the month, we’ve got a big event happening at Harvard Divinity School. We’re celebrating Spanish Unitarian theologian and physician Michael Servetus’s 500th birthday on Tuesday, September 27th at 7 pm in the Braun Room of Harvard Divinity School. This event will feature a drama (organized and performed by yours truly, the HUUMS Board 🙂 ), a panel discussion on Servetus’s legacy (featuring Reverend Lilia Cuervo, Professor Dan McKanan, and filmmaker Ron Cordes), and a screening of Part I of the yet-unreleased film Long Strange Trip: 2000 Years of UU History. And, of course, a reception with food and drink will follow. More information will be posted soon on our website and through our e-mail listserv.

On behalf of the HUUMS Board, we look forward to seeing you at our HUUMS events this month! Welcome back to all!
